Baked Cheese and Garlic Grits
Recipe from Southern LIving 1983
Yield: 8 servings
Ingredients:
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking grits
- 11/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cups butter or margarine (I use 1/4 cup)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 2 eggs beaten
- Bacon bits
Directions:
- Bring water and salt to boil
- Stir in grits and cook until done following package directions
- Remove from heat and add cheese, butter, milk and garlic
- Stir until butter and cheese melt
- Add a small amount of hot grits to eggs, stirring well
- Stir into remaining grits
- Pour grits into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.
- Bake 325°for 1 hour
