Homemade French Onion Dip

Recipe from Elisa Barger

Ingredients:

  • 1 very large - White Onion - pealed and sliced into thin rings
  • 2 tablespoons of Butter (or Margarine)
  • 1 tablespoon of Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup of Brown Sugar
  • Pepper and Salt to taste
  • 1 large container (16 oz.) of Sour Cream

Directions:

  1. Heat butter and oil and stir in onions.
  2. Add pepper and a bit of salt.
  3. Add brown sugar and cook until caramelized and thick.
  4. Put mixture in small dish and let cool to room temperature.
  5. Pour sour cream into a large dish and add the above caramelized ingredients.
  6. Stir gently, mixing well and chill.
  7. Stir once before serving.
  8. Excellent served with chilled sliced vegetables and baked potato chips (from the grocery). Serves a large group.
