Molasses Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Melt butter over low heat.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well.
  4. Mix together flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, ginger and cinnamon.
  5. Add to first mixture. Mix well. Chill overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  7. Form dough into 1-inch balls and roll in white sugar.
  8. Place on lightly-greased cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes.
  9. Cool on pan one minute before removing to wire rack.

Dough will stay refrigerated well for a few days. Makes 5-6 dozen cookies.
